Psychosis is a condition characterized by loss of contact with reality (that is not part of the person’s cultural or religious beliefs) and may involve severe disturbances in perception, cognition, behavior, and feeling. An individual experiencing psychosis may not know which of their feelings and thoughts are real. They believe the false experiences are actually happening.
This presented report provides a psychological perspective on the experiences that are commonly thought of as psychosis and also an overview of the knowledge about why some individuals’ hear voices, experience paranoia or have other experiences seen as ‘psychosis’. It also describes what can help.
