Is Mood related to serotonin…

A meta-analysis of serotonin studies, conducted at the University of Amsterdam, has shown that low serotonin does not act as a depressant because when it was lowered in healthy individuals it produced no decrease in mood at all. Further, these results are consistent with earlier studies showing that special drinks that deplete serotonin and norepinephrine levels do not actually produce depressive symptoms. Further, the special drinks consumed by healthy individuals (i.e. non-depressed individuals) do not decrease mood.
